For most Jeep off-road enthusiasts, a high-performance set of bumper-mounted driving lights is not just an accessory—it’s an essential upgrade. What truly matters goes far beyond brightness alone: vibration resistance, waterproof reliability, beam coverage, functional light modes, and modern lighting technology all play a critical role.
This time, we partnered with MOTO PILOT and The Next Chapter 4x4 to showcase a real-world installation and in-depth evaluation of the Colight premium series — Shark X.
Both creators are well-respected Jeep builders with extensive experience in off-road modifications and hands-on testing. Installation & Wiring Overview
-
Mounted securely to the front bumper using OEM Shark X hardware
-
Integrated with the factory auxiliary switch system
-
Independent control over high beam, low beam, amber DRL, and white DRL
MOTO PILOT chose to wire the lights into the factory auxiliary switch system.
To achieve this, the original switch harness was cut and re-routed, allowing full control of the lights during real driving conditions, including high beam, low beam, and the amber/white dynamic sequential DRL.
After connecting the black and white power wires to the battery, the white wire is used for the DRL and can be tapped into the vehicle’s factory daytime running light circuit.
The yellow wire can be connected to either the turn signal circuit or the fog light circuit.
For switch wiring:
-
The blue/white wires are connected to Auxiliary Switch positions 1 and 2 on the thicker wire set.
-
The yellow/white wires are connected to Auxiliary Switch positions 3 and 4 on the thinner wire set.
